Our Services

We provide in-home, play-based autism interventions to increase social engagement and communication for children, ages 1-6 years old. We also provide parent coaching so everyday family interactions are more rewarding for the whole family and further support the child’s social-emotional development. Additionally, we team with schools and their staff to assist in supporting neurodiverse learners in the classroom by modeling, coaching and offering suggestions to make the environment more welcoming to all learners. We serve children and schools in Ann Arbor and the surrounding areas. We also offer virtual family sessions nationwide.

In-Home Family Services

Consultation

We begin with a complimentary consultation on the phone or in person to learn about your child. We discuss their strengths and challenges, as well as your hopes and goals for them. Our first visit involves a lot of information gathering through family interviews, observations and assessments as well as paperwork.

Hourly Sessions in Your Home

Next, we schedule weekly or twice weekly one-hour sessions in your home. We spend some time at the beginning discussing how things have been going and any new milestones, questions or concerns. We teach you about functional developmental levels and discuss techniques and methods to help your child reach milestones. The majority of the time is spent playing with your child. Some of it will be observing you with your child while offering feedback and suggestions. Next, we spend time playing with your child, following their lead while you observe us. We model the techniques we are using and explain why so you have a better understanding of how to implement the interventions during everyday family activities. We spend the last few minutes of the session answering any questions and we leave you with a visit report form with suggestions and things to keep working on throughout the week.

We use child-led play to meet each child at their developmental level and leverage the student’s interests to socially engage them. We utilize a strengths-based approach to create a safe and caring environment where trust and connection can form.

Progress Reports

In addition to the parent-consultant discussions during a session and the written report form we give you after every session, we provide a formal report after the initial meeting. We process all the information taken from the parent interviews, observations and assessments and provide you with a formal plan that explains your child’s current functional developmental levels, comfort zone activities, sensory-motor profile, as well as the methods, appropriate techniques and activities to be used with your child to meet them where they are developmentally and help them progress to the next level of development. The plan is a working document and is updated regularly, usually every two months or so, to show your child’s progress towards their goals. :astly, we always encourage you to call, text or email us when you have questions, concerns or successes you want to share about your child. We believe communication is the key to working together and helping your child succeed. If you need more extensive time to discuss something, we are always happy to schedule a conference with you. Lastly, if you would like us to communicate with your child’s teachers and therapists, we are happy to do so with your consent.

Virtual Family Services

The first session would begin much like an in-home session, either on the phone or through a virtual video platform to learn more about your child, their interests, strengths, challenges and what you hope to gain from coaching. Next, we have two options. 1. We would do a live session with your video facing you and/or another caregiver while you play with your child and we would offer feedback in the moment or 2. We would ask you to take some videos of you and/or other caregivers playing and interacting with your child throughout the week so we could see a sampling of what your interactions normally look like. You would send the video to us and allow us some time to review it. Next, we would write up a report based on the information gathered from the initial meeting and observations taken from the videos. We would teach about appropriate methods, techniques and activities to use with your child, so you learn how to play at developmentally appropriate levels and start to understand how to engage them more frequently. We would support you as you as you continue to facilitate the growth of your child’s social-emotional development. We could also do a mix of both live video sessions and recorded video sessions.

School Services

We know that many schools are seeing a rise in children who are facing challenges and need more help than one teacher can sometimes provide. We collaborate with local schools to provide the extra support for teachers with students who struggle socially and/or behaviorally. Additionally, parents sometimes ask us to observe their child in the school setting and to collaborate with the classroom teachers to help the child become more involved in classroom activities and engaged with other children.

Observations and Consultations

  • First, we start with a complimentary consultation in person or on the phone to discuss the areas in which teachers or administrators need more classroom or schoolwide support.

  • We schedule a time to observe children in the setting where support is most often needed.

  • We debrief after the observation either at school, on the phone or via email.

  • We compile the information from the initial meeting, observation and debriefing to create a report with recommended strategies and interventions to help all students be successful in school.

  • Lastly, we have an in-person meeting to discuss the report, answer any questions and discuss next steps.

Follow Up Options

  • We offer weekly, monthly or quarterly, hour-long sessions after the initial observation and consultation. You decide how we can best support you during these sessions. They can be used for:

    • Modelling strategies in school with students

    • Training staff on how to implement strategies

    • Observing in other classrooms

    • Checking in on progress

    • Offering more suggestions and resources

Teacher and Staff Trainings

  • We provide professional development trainings on how to support diverse learners.

Alessia gave a presentation for our school’s professional development. She was clear, passionate and the content was outstanding!

  • “We greatly value the personal connection and rapport Alessia has established with our son. The connection comes from a genuine love that she has for kids and a keen understanding and appreciation of neurodiversity.”

    Beth Jacoby
Mother of Harry (3 years old)

  • “Alessia Odell was a former Trinity parent when I reached out to her in need of an inclusion specialist for a child in our school. I chose to contact her because I am keenly aware of her passion and dedication to children with special needs. Alessia made certain our student was included and participated as fully as possible in our program. A loving bond formed between them and our student’s skills grew in all domains of development. Any child and parent would be fortunate to have Alessia on their team!”

    Sue Gaertner

  • “Alessia has been a godsend for my 11-year-old son Rowan. From the very first session, she immediately developed an intuitive connection. She understands and is able to communicate with him like few others in his life. It’s obvious Alessia has a passion and special gift for working with children with autism and I’m so glad we found her!”
